Enslaved Odyssey to the West

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a tactical action-adventure game in development by Ninja Theory. The game is published by Namco Bandai Games to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Plot[]

Enslaved is a story set 150 years into the future where a global war has decimated the Earth. In this future, the human race has been decimated & robots still plague the land. Although they are from a bygone era, they are still following their orders to eradicate the humans. The storyline is loosely based on the ancient Chinese novel Journey to the West.

The main character in the game is called “Monkey”, who has spent his entire life running from the machines. Eventually Monkey is captured by the machines & placed on an slave ship. It is there that he meets a technologically adept woman named Trip. Although they escape the slave ship, Monkey gets knocked unconscious. When he comes to, he discovers that Trip put a slavers' headband on him, because she needs his help to get home. The headband will send painful impulses into his nervous system if he doesn’t obey her and will kill him if her heart beat stops. As they try to make their way back to Trip's home village they must fight robots that have been lying dormant for years. The two of them have a strained relationship but need to work together to survive.

Development[]

The game is being developed by Ninja Theory and the story is being written by Alex Garland. The game's score is provided by composer and musician Nitin Sawhney. The game is also being directed by Andy Serkis, who also does the motion capture for Monkey and helps with script writing.

Gameplay[]

The player controls Monkey, using his various martial abilities and weapons to protect Trip—for if she dies, he dies. He also uses his climbing skills to ambush enemy robots. Although Trip cannot fight, she can protect herself by using a handheld EMP device to temporarily stun enemies which gives her time to escape.

Monkey has the ability to use a dragonfly camera to explore the game, find and identify hidden enemy patrols, and display their radius. It can also detect robots' weak points, such as machine gun attachments that Monkey can rip off to use as weapons. The player can avoid combat, with Trip riding on Monkey's shoulders. Trip can be a distraction while Monkey sneaks up on enemies.
